Global Bass Roundup #3

Oye Globalistas!

And welcome back to our (relatively) regular roundup from the world of Global Bass. This edition sees the usual selection of Dancehall, Baile Funk, Moombahton, Afrobeat etc. But I decided to throw a bit of UK Bass in there for ya as well! As I’m sure you know, underground bass music has many roots in the UK, so it’s only logical that some of it should be included in a Global Bass selection. So bun a’ bifta, or whatever tickles your undercarriage and dig in to these woofer wobblers. Beleza…

Global Bass Roundup #2

Oye Globalistas!

Back once again with the digital damage. Welcome to GBR. We’ve mined the platforms to scavenge for tasty Global Bass nuggets, so you don’t have to. This week in our selection we have some Afrobeat, a bit of Dancehall, a touch of Moombahton and of course some Funk Carioca (we are Club Popozuda after all)! But let’s kick off with some vids, beginning with the excellent Angelique Kidjo (Benin) and her powerful tune “Dignity” featuring Yemi Alade. Beleza:

Baile Funk MEGALOAD!!!

Oye Globalistas!

And it’s back, the Baile Funk Megaload. Way back when, when I started blogging as Global Ghetto, the BFM was always one of the favorite posts. I think one time there where 120 tunes in one post! That then carried on when we brought the blog into the Club Popozuda website. But like all posts on here, it’s been a hot minute since we’ve had one of these. So fret no more, ‘coz here one be. Not quite 120 tunes, but a fair old chunk. And if you’ve been cluckin’ for a Baile Funk fix, then cluck no more irmáo (ou irmá). Beleza…

Global Bass Roundup

Oye Globalistas!

Welcome back. After a long break we’re back! The past year has been tough for everyone (literally), and as our existence relies on organizing parties and releasing music for DJs to play in clubs, we’ve found it tough to tread water during this period. But, enough is enough. We have a backlog of tunes to release and are starting to plot for life in the after-times. But to begin with, the thing that’s easiest to do is share a selection of recently released Global Bass bullets.

So let’s kick off with this selection of Baile Funk, Moombahton, Cumbia and some Afro-Beat. And we’ll start with this banger from Carioca producer Leo Justi and his Heavy Baile project featuring UK spitter Magugu. Beleza…

And this one’s not strictly Global Bass, but, POPOZUDA!!!!!!!

Shade FX feat. Loki Da Trixta – “Birdy” (Out Now)

Oye Globalistas

Today sees the release of the new Shade FX, this time featuring Loki Da Trixta.

The theme of Birdy relates to people’s behavior online and specifically with social media. Where people talk trash, spreading nonsense and noise. The lyrics compare people to pet birds, chirping and tweeting.

“You ain’t no real life star. We ain’t messin’ with your pranks.”

True to the spirit of “Global” Bass, the song is a collaboration of a British producer, New York rapper, Mexican animator, with remixes from Chile, various parts of the USA and Puerto Rico.

We’ve had some wicked remixes done of Birdy, here’s a bit of info on the brilliant producers that contributed:

RICHI TUNACOLA

Hailing from Santiago, Chile, Richi Tunacola is a producer, composer, Ableton instructor and frontman of the freak-pop band Tunacola.  In addition to his work with Tunacola he is part of an Electro Hip-Hop duo with Loki know as Chomba Boom, as well as releasing Latin American infused electronic music with Estrellas del Tropico.  He has performed his music in Europe, USA and most of Latin America, in various festivals such as Lollapalooza, SXSW, Primavera Sound, Sound City Liverpool to name a few.

NAIM HAKIM

Brooklyn born DJ and producer Naim Hakim, has produced Hip-Hop and electronic music over a career that has ended him on up on the same stage as artists like Skeet Skeet, Zeds Dead and 2Fresh.  Whether taking the stage as his rap alter-ego, or as the DJ himself, Naim swims in anything bass heavy. He takes no prisoners.

AL POLANSKI

With Jazz roots and a growing synth collection, Al Polanski (Buffalo/Atlanta, USA) has covered a handful of genres over the years, producing with aliases such as BIGSKI and Pizza Pizza. He jumped out of his current Funk/Hip-Hop pocket to throw down this Moombahton style remix, closer to some of the other bass heavy remixes he has done with Loki in the past.
