Oye Globalistas (and fans of Netflix)
After watching the great Netflix series Stranger Things, I was bowled over by the brilliant music by composers Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon. I wasn’t alone. Deadmau5 made a video of himself in his studio, playing with his impressive collection of analog synths for hours and hours, re-creating the arps from the show’s theme-tune. The music was an accurate homage to the amazing work of digital music pioneers like Giorgio Moroder and John Carpenter.
Carpenter scored all the music for his iconic movies, creating incredible soundscapes that became as important as anything else to the creative success of movies like Halloween, Escape From New York and especially Assault On Precinct 13, which even used to be played in clubs. Now I don’t have as an impressive analog synth collection as Mr Deadmau5, but I do have a Juno 106 and an old Korg, so I thought I’d play around with them a while and this is what I came up with. It’s merely inspired by Stranger Things, not a cover of it. So if you were looking for that, you’ll find loads on Soundcloud etc. Enjoy…
